A Mechanical Misunderstanding

Welcome back!

…of epic proportions!

That’s the title - and here are some more teaser pics.

Bye for now!

Taking a detour

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

I’m taking a break on project Blue Moon to work on something a little different.

Making a game in Flash has its benefits, but without a dedicated game engine to build upon, it was always going to take me ages to make it (by myself). I’m still dedicated to finishing Blue Moon, but right now I want to work on something that I can finish quickly. That’s why I thank the heavens (or creator Chris Jones, either one) for Adventure Game Studio! AGS is a freeware tool that specializes in the creation of old school point & click adventure games like Monkey Island. It’s super easy to use and even easier to wrap your head around thanks to these awesome video tutorials by Youtube user densming.

Again, this doesn’t mean I’ve given up on Blue Moon. In fact, I was thinking that if the Flash version goes down well, then maybe an iPhone version could be in order, but that would be subject to who wants to help program it! I wouldn’t mind splitting the profits with someone. We could be zillionaires!

So far so good

I’m still working on Blue Moon a few hours a day. I’ve almost finished the second scene in the game now and I recently implemented a pretty cool rain effect. I’ve written over 30 different sentences for the interactions so far in the first two scenes, some of it dialogue.

I also came up with an awesome ending, much better than my original ending. It will blow your mind!

Here’s some more music I came up with!

Working Title: Blue Moon

Finally! I got tired of referring to the game as “the game”, so for now, let it be known as Blue Moon. So go! Run and tell your friends of the exciting new game from Mindtank Studios, temporarily titled Blue Moon. A short and stylish, somewhat experimental first-person adventure game :)

Help has arrived!

As a programming novice, it was only a matter of time before I ran into a brick wall making this game. Luckily, someone saved me at the last second. Jody Hall of The Flash Connection, a certified expert in Flash CS3 (and a talented mazoonist!) liked my artwork so much that he offered to lend a helping hand in the creation of the game.

Now thanks to Jody, the guts of the game are developing much faster (and far more professionally) than I ever thought possible, with custom classes to increase efficiency and usability, for me and for the player!

Artwork’s coming along nicely, too. Hopefully more updates soon :D
