I've always wanted to play Gabriel Knight 1, but it's pretty hard to get your hands on nowadays (why isn't it available via digital download yet?) Also, I've heard it's brutally difficult. Me no likey really difficult adventure games :P

I'm sure you've heard of the Gabriel Knight games. The first game is the very definition of a 2D mature adventure. I think it has more to do with the writing than the art style, as the mature theme is something established throughout the series as it has evolved using 2D graphics, FMV and 3D graphics.
